Chocolate Chip Cookies!
Flour - Without it, cookie dough is to sticky to work with. Flour makes cookies fluffy and easier to bake with.
Baking powder - It's an leavening agent. Without it your cookies would be thin, flat, hard and heavy.
Butter - There is the 'flavor' of the butter and it tends to remain in our mouths longer, making the flavors it carries also last longer and taste richer. It also makes the cookies much softer and chewier.
Sugar - Makes the cookies taste sweet (:
Vanilla Extract - Makes the cookies have a vanilla(ish) taste.
Eggs - Moisten & bind the cookies.
Salt - Not necessarily needed, but a little bit enhances the taste of your cookies without making them salty.
Chocolate Chips - Puts the 'Chocolate Chip' in Chocolate Chip Cookies!
Invented by Ruth Wakefield (right) at her tourist lodge/restaurant called the Toll House Inn.
Toll House Tried and True Recipes
, was published in 1936 by M. Barrows & Company, New York
She struck a deal with Andrew Nestle (Nestle Semi-sweet chocolate bars) that Nestle would print the Toll House Cookie recipe on its packaging and Ruth Wakefield would have a lifetime supply of Nestle chocolate.
Chocolate Chip Cookies rapidly became a favorite in American homes.
